There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV
Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

Gladness of heart
Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NIV
Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work—this is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.
Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 NIV
There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. (7:20)
If a man is lazy, the rafters sag; if his hands are idle, the house leaks. (10:18)
Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally as well. (11:6)

Meaning in Meaningless
"Meaningless! Meaningless!"
says the Teacher.
"Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless."
What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun?
Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything of which one can say,
"Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
There is no remembrance of men of old,
and even those who are yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow.
Ecclesiastes 1:2-11 NIV
Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do. Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun— all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

Anniversaries
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from Yahweh. (18:22)
Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy. (14:10)
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. (31:10,11)
Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. (5:18)

broken wisdom
As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to Yahweh his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
Yahweh became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from Yahweh, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep Yahweh's command. So Yahweh said to Solomon, "Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen."
1 Kings 11:4, 9-13 NIV

Proverbs (Part X) give health
Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy. (14:10)
Even in laughter the heart may ache, and joy may end in grief. (14:13)
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. (17:22)
A man's spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? (18:14)
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; and good news gives health to the bones. (15:30)
Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. (30:5)
...give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise I may have too much and disown you and say, "Who is Yahweh?" Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. (30:8b-9)
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. (31:8,9)
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. (30:10,11)

When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge. (14:32)
If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength! (24:10)
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. (13:12)
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of Yahweh. (23:17)

Proverbs (Part VIII) Work
Honor Yahweh with your wealth, with the firstfruits of your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. (3:9,10)
Wealth brings many friends, but a poor man's friend deserts him. (19:4)
Rich and poor have this in common: Yahweh is Maker of them all. (22:2)
The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender (22:7)
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. (23:4,5)
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow" - when you now have it with you. (3:27,28)
A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children... (13:22a)
He who is kind to the poor lends to Yahweh, and he will reward him for what he has done. (19:17)

Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice (16:8)

Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings... (22:29)
Finish your outdoor work, and get your fields ready; after that build your house. (24:27)

Proverbs (Part VI) Apt Reply
A man finds joy in giving an apt reply - and how good is a timely word! (15:23)
Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. (16:24)
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue (17:28)
He who answers before listening - that is his folly and his shame. (18:13)
The words of a gossip are like choice morsels, they go down to a man's innermost parts. (18:8/26:22)
Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (12:18)
Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. (17:14)

Proverbs (Part V) Needless bruises
Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self control. (25:28)
It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider his vows. (20:25)
... a patient man calms a quarrel. (15:18b)
A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense. (19:11)
Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. (20:1)
... drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. (23:21b)
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine... (23:29-30a)
...a man's ways are in full view of Yahweh, and he examines all his paths. (5:21}
My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. (6:20-22)

Proverbs (Part IV)
All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by Yahweh. (16:2)
As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man. (27:19)
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice. (21:3)
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. (3:3)
Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find? (20:6)
He who mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished (17:5)
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. (12:25)
If you find honey, eat just enough - too much of it, and you will vomit. Seldom set foot in your neighbor's house - too much of you, and he will hate you. (25:16,17)
One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth (13:7)
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (16:18,19)
Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud. (18:12)
Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"? (20:9)
Humility and the fear of Yahweh bring wealth and honor and life. (22:4)
Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips. (27:2)
Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? (27:4)
A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (14:30)

Better is open rebuke than hidden love (27:5)
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another (27:17)
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed (15:22)

Proverbs (Part II)
The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;
for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young-
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance-
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The fear of yahweh is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Prov 1:1-7 NIV
Blessed is the man who always fears Yahweh, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble. (28:14)
Trust in Yahweh with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. (3:5,6)
The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. (18:10)
A man's own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against Yahweh. (19:3)
Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (26:16)
The eyes of Yahweh are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. (15:3)
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is Yahweh's purpose that prevails. (19:21)
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. (27:1)
Like an archer who wounds at random is he who hires a fool or any passer-by. (26:10)
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who cherishes understanding prospers. (19:8)
The purposes of a man's heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out. (20:5)
It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way. (19:2)
Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel. (20:15)
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (24:3,4)

wisdom calls (Proverbs Part I)
Does not wisdom call out?
Does not understanding raise her voice?
"I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence;
I possess knowledge and discretion.
To fear Yahweh is to hate evil;
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil behavior and perverse speech.
Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have understanding and power.
By me kings reign
and rulers make laws that are just;
by me princes govern,
and all nobles who rule on earth.
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me find me.
With me are riches and honor,
enduring wealth and prosperity.
My fruit is better than fine gold;
what I yield surpasses choice silver.
I walk in the way of righteousness,
along the paths of justice,
bestowing wealth on those who love me
and making their treasuries full.
Prov 8:1, 12-21 NIV
[Yahweh, grant wisdom to those who seek her, fill our leaders with wisdom]

Wisdom
God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than any other man [...] And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. He described plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also taught about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.

Glad in Heart
...the glory of Yahweh filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of Yahweh because the glory of Yahweh filled it. When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of Yahweh above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to Yahweh, saying,
"He is good;
his love endures forever."
So Solomon observed the festival at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days more. On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things Yahweh had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel.
2 Chronicles 7:1b-3, 8-10 NIV
[Yahweh, help us to see the good things you do all around us; may our hearts overflow with gladness]

Temple
Solomon sent this message to Hiram king of Tyre:
"Send me cedar logs as you did for my father David when you sent him cedar to build a palace to live in. Now I am about to build a temple for the Name of Yahweh my God and to dedicate it to him for burning fragrant incense before him, for setting out the consecrated bread regularly, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening and on Sabbaths and New Moons and at the appointed feasts of Yahweh our God. This is a lasting ordinance for Israel."
"The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods. But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him? Who then am I to build a temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before him?"
In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, [...] , he began to build the temple of Yahweh.
... the temple was finished in all of its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.

give me wisdom
Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for Yahweh his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.
[...] God appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you."
Solomon answered God, "You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Yahweh God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"
God said to Solomon, "Since this is your heart's desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have."

walk faithfully
When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
"I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what Yahweh your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go, and that Yahweh may keep his promise to me: 'If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'"

Princes
Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples!
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
For Yahweh Elyon [Most High] is awesome;
He is a great King over all the earth.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with understanding.
God reigns over the nations;
God sits on His holy throne.
The princes of the people have gathered together,
The people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
He is greatly exalted.

dwell
Yahweh is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
Yahweh is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
One thing I have desired of Yahweh,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of Yahweh
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of Yahweh,
And to inquire in His temple.
For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then Yahweh will take care of me.
Teach me Your way, O Yahweh...
Wait on Yahweh;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on Yahweh!

Lips
Set a guard over my mouth, O Yahweh;
keep watch over the door of my lips.
Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil,
to take part in wicked deeds
with men who are evildoers;
let me not eat of their delicacies.
Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—it is oil on my head.
My head will not refuse it.

soul thirst
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
By day Yahweh directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

A searched heart
Answer me when I call to you,
O my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
be merciful to me and hear my prayer.
In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for you alone, O Yahweh,
make me dwell in safety.

fearfully & wonderfully made
O Yahweh, you have searched me
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O Yahweh.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Unity
How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head,

It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there Yahweh bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

Hidden
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, O Yahweh;
teach me your decrees.
With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.

Praise Yahweh, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Yahweh works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
Yahweh is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.

so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Praise Yahweh, all his heavenly hosts,
